Who are our Designated Safeguarding Leads?
The Designated Safeguarding Lead for Sladefield is Mrs Lynette Donohue, Inclusion Manager. She has undertaken the two day Safeguarding training with a Local Authority endorsed company and she also receives regular updates to ensure that she is fully up to date with Safeguarding practices, she has also completed the NSPCC Safeguarding refresher course in December 2020.
We also have 4 other members of the staff who are safeguarding trained and they deputised this important role when needed. These staff members are Mr Rob Meadows (Head Teacher), Mrs Nicola Connolly (Deputy Head Teacher ), Miss Sharon Spear (Learning Mentor) and Mrs Yasmin Ali (Parent Support Worker) and are all fully qualified DSLs. They undertake regular updates and supervision each term.
How do we know that staff who work at Sladefield Infant School are suitable to work with children?
When staff are appointed there is always someone on the interview panel who has had recent Safer Recruitment training. The school makes rigorous checks to ensure that staff are eligible to work with children and everyone, including Governors, has to undergo an enhanced DBS, which checks that the person has no convictions that would prevent them from working with children.
In addition to this, under the guidance of the 2022 Keeping Children Safe In Education (KCSIE) we conduct online searches of all shortlisted candidates, to ensure that they have a clean and suitable internet profile to work with our children.
The school keeps a comprehensive Single Central Record which documents these checks and this is audited by an external advised each year to ensure that it is up to date and meets current legislation. (See below for the Single Central Record Audit from November 2021 - this is done annually, which includes the action plan where we have worked towards or fulfilled any action points)
How do we record Safeguarding concerns?
In school, we use an online platform called CPOMs which is a safeguarding software for schools. Information received from outside agencies can be stored and recorded on the CPOMs system. CPOMs is a protected online platform where professionals in school can access information relating to the behaviour and safety of a child.
How do staff keep up to date with safeguarding and child protection issues?
Staff have regular Safeguarding Briefings. In the last year, staff have also completed Prevent (WRAP) training. The School Nurse Team have facilitated all staff with; Epilepsy Awareness, Asthma and Epipen training. All staff have completed a certified, comprehensive online Safeguarding update.
How can you find out how we deal with safeguarding and child protection concerns?
