Sladefield Infant School

Sustainability

As a school, we want to make sure that we are doing the very best to find opportunities to increase sustainability.

We have an active set of Sladefield Ambassadors made up of 2 pupils from each class who meet regularly to discuss and make decisions about how we can be more sustainable.

Over the past couple of years, alongside the ambassadors, we have made the decision to carry out the following actions:

  • Introduce 'March through March', seeing which class has the most children walking to school and not using transport
  • Developed a garden area in the playground where planting takes place and wildlife is encouraged
  • Introduced a composting system so that compost is being created
  • Included sustainable activities into the school curriculum
  • Developed the roles of school-wide monitors to help with recycling of paper and food
  • Held specific 'Green Days' to promote sustainable activity
  • Set regular homework challenges to encourage children and their families to be more sustainable

The Sustainability Team have also worked together to create a Climate Action Plan which outlines actions that the school will take to improve the school's Carbon Footprint.  Please take a read of our Climate Action Plan below - this is colour-coded to show how succesful we have been on our journey towards being more sustainable.
